Three times in my career, I have had buyer’s under contract,
conduct an inspection, and find that the home they fell in love with has Atlas
Chalet Shingles. What are Atlas Chalet
Shingles you ask? They are shingles that
have been found to be defective and homeowner’s allege that they are defective
with and experience cracking, blistering and otherwise early wear before the
end of their target life span. In 2013,
there was a Class Action Lawsuit filed against the manufacturer. In 2017, a judge handed down a ruling that
essentially put an end to the litigation, at least as a class action. None the less, there are still some roofs out
there and sellers are oblivious until an inspection is performed and they
receive “the Call” from their agent or inspector that they have Atlas Chalet shingled roof. In most cases, it is not a matter of if,
it is a matter of when the roof will fail. I advise my clients to negotiate a new roof
so they will have peace of mind that they won’t have issues in the very near
future from an Atlas Chalet shingled roof.

are a seller and are unsure whether you have Atlas Chalet, get an
inspection.
